Encouraging transit use and alternative modes of transportation
Traffic congestion, gas prices, and urban sprawl each contribute to increasing transit ridership and viable alternatives to the single occupancy vehicle. Designing parking for transit presents specific opportunities and challenges. Structured parking serving transit should consider and plan for redevelopment opportunities, public/private partnerships, and transportation demand management (TDM) strategies such as shared-use to maximize turnover and revenue.
