Future City Competition
On Saturday, January 24, our staff participated in the judging of the DiscoverE Future City Competition for the Philadelphia region. The Future City Competition is a national, project-based learning experience where middle school students design and build what they imagine will be the city of the future. The mission of the competition is to provide a fun and exciting educational engineering program for middle school students combining an engineering challenge with a “hands-on” application to present their vision of a city of the future.
Students work as a team with an educator and engineer mentor to plan their city, research and write solutions to an engineering problem, build scale models using recycled materials, and present their ideas before judges. Regional winners will represent their region at the National Finals in Washington, DC in February.
Chris Gray, PE once again served as a special awards evaluator for this year’s competition. Chris remarked “It is impressive how well-spoken, motivated, and knowledgeable these students are. I find myself learning something new each and every year from them.”
We are thrilled to be involved with the Future City Competition and look forward to continuing to work with this great program!
